Sympathy Prayer Shawl

I have been knitting prayer shawls for almost nine years. The shawl I completed today, like the first prayer shawl I knit, is meant to comfort due to the lost of a loved one. That first shawl was pink and in memory of a 20 year old killed in an automobile accident; I gave it to her grieving mother. That young life was taken suddenly and unexpectedly. The shawl you see pictured here is for a widow whose husband was stricken suddenly and unexpectedly. I hope she finds comfort when the shawl is wrapped around her in a virtual embrace.

I finished Jennifer's sweater New Year's Eve; wish it had been Christmas Eve, but just the same it is done and she likes it!

The Dahlia Cardigan by Heather Zoppetti is basically a rectangular blanket with sleeves, a perfect style for a laid back woman as my daughter.

I really enjoyed knitting the lace back panel and the detail on the sleeves.

The sweater is versatile, warm and comfortable. The highest compliment would be if she wore it out!

Heartfelt Knitters' Christmas Extravaganza

Our knitting group had its Christmas party and gift exchange last evening. What a great time! Now that we had the get-together, I can share one of my holiday knitting projects.

Last year I made the Brighton bag as my exchange gift, and one of the knitters REALLY liked the bag. She privately shared with me how jealous she was that she was not the recipient of the gift, so I told her if I picked her name this year I would definitely make her a bag. I could not believe when we picked names that I DID pick her name. So, of course I had to keep my promise. However, I wanted to through her off, so I made her awesome coasters with her baby's picture on them and let her believe that was her gift and then surprised her with the bag. She loved the coasters, but was thrilled when I gave her the bag.

I have been knitting until my hands ache in an attempt to complete my Christmas gifts! I simply cannot post anything I've knit, or made otherwise, until after Christmas since the recipients of my projects follow my blog.

Ninety Three and Going Strong

My 93 mom keeps herself busy by knitting on a loom and reading. The scarves and hats (32 scarves and four hats) she is holding were made for needy families in our community; they will receive the knit gifts at the annual Christmas Dinner sponsored by Project Hope of Easton.

By the way, doesn't my mother look wonderful sporting the Tangled Yoke sweater I knit? It is too big for me and has been sitting in my closet. She was thrilled this morning when i asked her to try it on and it fit perfectly, so now it is hers.

Brothers Three Christmas Stockings

A friend of a friend's friend asked me to make two Christmas stockings for her. Her eldest son, Tyler, received a stocking as a baby gift and now having two more sons, Matt and Josh, she wanted matching stockings. I suggested that she ask the original knitter to make them, but she said she was no longer in touch with the knitter whom was a friend of her mother-in-law. So, I took the job. Matt and Josh's stockings are a tad wider than Tyler's stocking but otherwise, I think they are a pretty good match. I hope she'll be happy with the results.

I finally found grey cotton to make Ava's Hannah Anderson "like" slouch cap. The pattern I used is Slouched Tuva Hat from Ravelry. I used Fantasy Natural cotton, which was a dream to knit with. I purchased the yarn yesterday at The Knitter's Edge in Bethlehem; love that shop.

Cotton Knit Slouchy Cap

My son found this Slouchy Crochet Hat on the Hanna Anderson site, which he liked for Miss A. I was happy when he asked if I thought I could knit something similar. I went right to the Ravelry pattern page and found this adorable, very similar knit slouchy cap.

This morning I tried it on Miss A., and think that I need to tighten the band a bit so it will slouch a little more, but since my son likes it, I'll work on making a crochet accent flower.

I will be making this hat in several colors for her. The plan is that she'll wear the hat as a fashion accessory in an attempt to keep her gorgeous curls our of her eyes.

Joy's Knitting Night Baby Shower

We were able to surprise Joy last evening, she really just thought she was coming to a typical knitting night.

Of course I had to capture her opening the quilt I stitched for her, and she truly seemed to like it!

She received many beautiful gifts for the members of our group. Her mother-in-law knit/crochet all the bootie favors.

Miss C. Likes Her Dress

I received a picture text this morning of Miss C. wearing her Shades of Summer Dress! Her mommy said that she received three compliments while wearing the dress at the supermarket this morning. I was also told that C. asked if the dress would still fit when she went back to school; she likes it, C really likes it!

You'll notices she's wearing a tank top under the dress because the armholes are little big on her right now, but it leaves room for growth.

120 Hand Stitched Hearts of Love

Well, I met my deadline! Tomorrow is July 1st and Joy's Joy Quilt is complete. I wanted to hang it on a line and let it blown the breeze to show it off, but with the weight of the wet quilt, the line kept stretching. It washed up so nicely; I didn't want to risk the quilt dragging on the ground to get dirty. I could've waited for my DH to get home from work, and help me with it, but I'm rather impatient when it comes to posting on my blog. So, here you have it drying over the deck railing. I am very pleased with the quilt and hope that Joy will be as happy with it. I hope her little girl will use it for many years to come!

This shawl (Summer Flies by Donna Griffin) was so easy and enjoyable to knit I couldn't put it down until it was finished! The bamboo yarn was also delightful to work with. It is on my blocking board now, however, it is with the wrong side facing outward. When it is dry I will model it right side showing. Even on the wrong side though you can appreciate the lacy design.

Ah....back to the quilt!

Shades of Summer Dress

Miss C had her 4th birthday yesterday; her party is Saturday. I have been knitting for Miss C since she was born, but this year I thought I'd give her a store bought gift instead of a hand-knit, however, her mom had other ideas! It was a huge compliment to hear that she was hoping for another hand-knit so last week I bought some cotton yarn and found a little summer dress pattern and viola' Miss C's 4th birthday present is complete. For it to be a true surprise I did not get measurements from her mom, rather I'm guessing on this one, and I'm worried the bodice/underarms might be too large. I think the length will be okay (above the knee) since I had Miss A try it on to get an idea of how it might fit Miss C, who is a year older than Miss A. Well, Saturday is just two days away so it won't be long and I'll know for sure if it's a Yay or Nay!

Gardening vs Knitting

This weekend was dedicated to working in our yard; tonight I hope to sit, relax, knit and enjoy the fruit of my labor!

The vegetable garden is doing well; there are florets on the broccoli.

This shady spot is new to the yard this year. My husband did some stone work; placed a glider under the old oak tree along with a little fire pit for cozy cool evenings.

My perennial garden is lush and full thanks to the wet winter/spring we had this year.

I have expanded my herb garden this year to include more than just basil and parsley.

For the past 15 years my son has given me a rose bush for Mother's Day; most have survived but not all!

This year he gave me what will most likely be the final bush; it is actually a replacement for one that he had given me in 1996 but has since died. It is called Angel Face Rose

Together we decided that I have no more sunny spots to plant any more rose bushes.

Taking care of our property is time consuming and energy zapping, but so enjoyable when the work is complete.

I have been tutoring a little girl for the past six months whom I've been come very fond. tomorrow night is our last session together; this summer she will moving out of town with her family. Last marking period she was rewarded for good grades with an American Girl Doll named Ivy. Tomorrow night I will give her this little dress I knit for her doll.

I draped the dress over a book so you'd get an idea of it's size. The patter is free and can be found on ABC Knitting.

Day 2 of Joy's Joy Quilt

I've decided I will hand-quilt this baby gift. This morning I assembled the quilts layers and secured the layers with my curved quilting safety pins, which takes the place of time consuming basting. It was like Christmas when I pulled out my quilting supply box to see what I might need to purchase to complete this project. I discovered three hand sewn pieces I did for practice when learning how to quilt, and I must say they are pretty good! I will have to post pictures of them at a later date. I also found all kinds of needles, thimbles and pins that I had forgotten I had. Inside a book that I used as reference back in the "day" I found my handwritten name and the year "1992." So, there you have it, 1992 was the year I first took an interest in quilting. Back then I hand stitched a pillow, which I used until it literally fell apart. In 1992, I worked with a woman who produced hand stitched like a well oiled machine, and it would have been a mortal sin to ever use the words "machine stitch." Well, it's a new era and there's a lot of things to cross off my bucket-list, so this quilt's top was hand cut, pieced together by machine and now will be hand quilted. I'm very happy with that!

Next, to decide how I want the quilted design to look. I am thinking about "popping" the squares or multiple of four squares into one and then stitching a heart or butterfly in the center of the square. We'll see..............

Quilt for Joy's Joy

A very close friend's daughter-in-law, Joy, is expecting a little girl in September. Since my friend, Joy and many other friends are knitters, I decided my gift for Joy's baby would be a handmade quilt. I bought four different fabrics, three for the quilt top and one for the quilt backing. The squares for the top are all cut and I have my design all laid out. Today I will start the process of assembling. I decided to machine sew the squares for the sake of speed and secure seams that will withstand many washings. However, I am leaning toward hand stitching the quilting; we'll see if that becomes a reality or not as I move along. I am making the quilt large enough to use on a twin size bed rather than crib size since it is my hope that the quilt will be used for many years!

Sharing Others Talent

This morning I created a little art gallery in my kitchen. Only one of these pieces is not a hand-painted work of art, but a computer generated rendition. It would be the "painting" of me with my granddaughter in the garden. The other three pieces are watercolors given to me as gifts. The painting of the foxgloves was done by my husband's cousin, Brenda; the barn scene was painted by our friend, Bonnie, and most recently the roses is a piece done by my sister-in-law, Linda. She painted the roses on a card she sent to me for my birthday. Each piece is special to me and hangs in a spot that I look at many times throughout the day.

Josh's Stocking

Josh's Christmas stocking (on the left) only needs minor decorations and it is complete. I am please with how the stocking turned out using Intarsia rather than Fair Ilse knitting. I debated blocking the stocking to "shrink" it down to be more like Em's stocking (on the right), but decided not to do so. I attempted to match Em's stocking to make Josh's similar, but not a duplicate. Since the stocking I knit is for a man the foot should be larger than Em's stocking! Knowing Em she'll be pleased with the completed project for her hubby.

Color Work

I knit a stocking for a friend's granddaughter this past fall and knowing that the baby's mother, Em, had a stocking that was knit for her when she was a baby I thought it might be fun to try and match Em's stocking for her husband, Josh. After really examining Em's stocking I realized the 1970's style stocking was done in a style of knit known as Intarsia, So, after attempting to knit the stocking using the Fair Isle technique, I decide to take it apart and start over using Intarsia.

I am enjoying the project so much that I knit all what you see in the photos yesterday.

I think I'll be knitting Intarsia again, again; I see an Intarsia sweater in Miss Ava's near-future.

House Slippers

The Mad Hatter

I have been busy working on a costume for my granddaughter to wear to a themed "Alice In Wonderland" tea party. The party is on Sunday.

Although I'm sure her hair will be combed for the tea party, I think its present state is fitting of the Mad Hatter.

Thankfully she enjoys dress-up and costume changes; this is the first fitting!

She actually said, "I think the Mad Hatter loves this costume!"

We still need to get the hat to fit her better; I will get a better picture once it actually stays on her head. There are three tea cups and a teapot that sits in a tilted stack!

I believe she's just about ready to take home the prize for the most original! What do you think?

Renee Leverington's Design

The Mystery Shawl is blocked and ready for wear. However, it's true beauty will not be seen when I wrap it around myself; so I decided to hang it, and let the sun shine through it to show off the detail of Renee Leverington's design. The scalloped edge should be deeper than mine is, but I was running short on yarn and had to end the project two rows sooner than the pattern directions. I shared this with Renee, and told her I was worried there wouldn't even be a noticeable scallop, but Renee assured me there would be a decent scallop after blocking. She was right! This is the second shawl of Renee's I've knit and I'm sure there will a few more in my knitting future.

Fourth Clue to Mystery Shawl 21

Finally clue 4 is complete! The shawl is too wide for me to lay it out on the bed and stretch it to show you the pattern; I would certainly lose stitches if I attempted to do that. So, I stretched it the best I could on the back of my knitting chair so you could see the beauty this piece is becoming. The next post will be the fifth and final clue, which means this shawl should be done by the weekend!

Mystery Shawl 21 KAL Clue 3

Third clue is complete! I am one week behind as far as clues go, but I'm ready to start clue 4. Clue 5 is due to show up in my inbox on Saturday. It's doubtful I'll get clue 4 done by then....oh well. I love the shawl thus far. I no longer can stretch it out to show you the full affects since when I try the stitches slip off my needle. I am using a 60 inch needle cable so that should give you a hint as to how many stitches I'm dealing with at this point.

New Found Cousin

After finding each other via the Internet and corresponding via email for 5 years, tonight I finally got to meet my second cousin Lucille. Her grandmother and my grandfather were sister and brother but because she lived in Boston and he lived in Pennsylvania the family was not in touch. Tonight that changed! In preparing for our visit I made Lucille a crocheted piece with of our maiden name and the name that ties us together as family......she loved it!

Mystery Shawl 21 Clue 2

Although Clue 2 arrived late last Saturday I didn't have time to give it my undivided attention until this weekend, but I am happy to say that I'm pleased with the turnout. I am now anxious to work on Clue 3, which arrived yesterday morning! Hopefully, I'll find some uninterrupted time this week to work on it so I'm ready for Saturday's 4th clue.

Valentine's Day a Bit Early

Although the plan was to give Miss A. the ragged quilt for Valentine's Day, this morning when she arrived she went to her room before I remembered that the quilt was laying on her bed waiting to be folded and boxed! No matter, she loved it and that made it all worthwhile. She has had it with her most of the morning and now she is napping all cuddled under the new quilt.

Second Time is a Charm!

I'm so glad I made the first quilt and learned so many valuable lessons in the process. Making this larger quilt for Miss A. this week was a breeze! The best investment I made was buying a pair of Fiskars' Rag Quilt Snipsthey made the tabbing process painless. I used a 50% off coupon at JoAnn's, which made the purchase even better.

New fabric cut into pieces and quilted. this quilt has batting in between each square/rectangle.

All pieces are sewn together and I'm happy to say that there are no corners where the same fabric touches.

The finished quilt washed, dried and "ragged" laying on my queen size bed....pretty nice if I do say so myself.

In all honesty this quilt is more a gift to myself, since in reality do you think a 32 month old toddler really understands what went into making this quilt of love? Of course not! She'll enjoy it by all means since she likes to cuddle up under blankets, and hopefully in years to come she'll know her nonna made it just for her. However, for now I feel as though it is a gift for myself since it gave me such pleasure to make it. I really do enjoy "gifting!"

Garter Rib Baby Blanket

This bereavement blanket was knit with Encore worsted weight yarn (2 skeins) and size 5 needles. The pattern is free and can be found at Orange Flowers Patterns.

The knit three, purl three repeat made it an easy blanket to kit as a "prayer blanket" for a little angel not long for this world. I hope the baby whom will be wrapped in it and held will experience total peace. I also hope that the parents whom will keep the blanket will forever feel their baby's love.

Baby Quilt

I like it, I really do! It's small but adorable. Buddy pants as though it is too warm for him!

I will be heading back to the fabric store this weekend to buy more fabric to make a larger one for Miss A.

This one I decided I will donate to charity. I've been knitting a blanket to be sent to a hospital that has asked for bereavement blankets to be used in its NICU, so I will send this little quilt there too. It's the perfect size for a newborn angel.

Day 2 of Quilting

I am now in the process of "tabbing" each seam so I can wash it and fray it so it will become "ragged."

Now, why it didn't go as planned........

What started out to be a 54" x 45" quilt for Miss A. has turned into a 36" x 30 " lap or crib quilt! Why you ask? Well, since I am making this quilt without a pattern, and never having put a quilt together it has been a true learning experience in every way. First, while cutting out the squares I mistakenly cut all my 4 1/2" x 4 1/2" squares into 3 1/2" x 3 1/2" squares. I forgot that I was laying the fabric on the one grid and not the zero grid so I was off by an inch on all the squares. I noticed this error AFTER I had already cut out all the other pieces, so I had to go back and trim all the pieces down to 7" x 7". Now mind you, all the other pieces were measuring to be 9" x 9". Okay, not too much of a big deal, my quilt would be 42" x 35" I could live with that, and it would still be a decent throw for Miss A! Moving forward to sewing today. I put the first two 3 1/2" x 3 1/2" squares together and then place them onto a 7" x 3 1/2" rectangle and guess what?! They don't fit corner to corner. Why? Because I didn't take into account the 1/2 " seam allowance, which now meant that my squares would be 6" squares!!!! ARGH......oh well, I sewed and I trimmed and I trimmed and I sewed and I now have a very cute 33 1/2" x 27 1/2" quilt. Why not 36" x 30 " BECAUSE OF THE SEAM ALLOWANCE!

And students ask why they have to learn about area, perimeter and fractions.....THIS IS WHY!

Had I really given this project the thought it deserved I probably would have realized all the components. I was way too eager to see the end result. The end result is not what I had in mind, but this truly was a learning experience. I am not upset, I actually laughed at myself and just kept on moving. Life is too short to get upset about something as trivial as this.

I have two options. Give it to Miss A anyway, and let her use it in the car, or some such thing, or keep it for a baby gift! I'll see how it looks after it is "ragged" and then decide.

The Trellis Finally Fits!

I knit this Trellis sweater in August 2007; almost a year before my granddaughter was even born! It was the first piece I knit from a chart and it was a challenge, but it turned out beautifully! Finally, 3 1/2 years later it fits Miss A and looks great on her!

Quilting

Years ago I learned how to quilt by hand, however, all I eve made was a pillow. Hand quilting takes a lot of time and patience. Getting the stitches to be uniform is a challenge for a beginner. I recall the woman whom I was learning from commenting that my stitches went from the sublime to the ridiculous in length! Well, I never gave up on the idea of quilting; I just knew it would have to wait until my "golden" years when I'd have time to spare. I'm not sure I'll ever be a hand quilter, but I can see a future for machine quilting. Today I am working on the easiest quilting method: Ragged Quilting. I think it will be Miss A.'s Valentine gift.

Mystery Shawl 21

I just completed the first clue for Goddessknits' 21st Mystery Shawl KAL. I love how the surprise shawl is developing. I tried to stretch it the best I could to show you the beading!

I can't wait until next Saturday when the designer, Renee Leverington sends the second clue. The KAL started yesterday and every Saturday for six weeks members will receive a new clue until the shawl is complete. The clues are given in chart-form only, so Renee expects the knitters in the group have experience knitting lace. My first experience with lace was in August of 2008 when Goddessknits held it's Anniversary Shawl knit along and I knit my first lace piece in the round.

Since then I've knit several lace pieces, but I've been itching to do another mystery KAL and was excited when I discovered this KAL.

I'll be posting upon the completion of each clue every week until finally the shawl will be complete.

Two versions of the same hat! Jenn likes the button version.

KJ decided she liked the grey brimmed cap I knit more so than the black version I also knit just in case she wanted black! This hat however will be taken apart and made a little bit longer for her.

The caplet I thought might be for Miss A. will be for Miss C.; this one is a little to big around the neck for Miss A. I will modify the pattern to fit her neck a bit snugger. At any rate, even though she's modeling it over a winter dress, I think the spring caplet looks really cute on her.

Child's Caplet

This piece may look like a doily at the moment, but when Miss A. or Miss C. puts it on it will look like a caplet! I will make another in the near future so both girls will have one to wear over their Easter dress this spring.

The pattern is Plymouth Yarn Jeannee Dk #179 (Child's Caplet). I made the 4-8 size which took 2 skeins of the DK yarn.

In the pattern picture it appears that the caplet may have been pressed (blocked) which flattened the ruffle affect. I choose to damp block this caplet because I want to keep the "ridges" which makes it look ruffly. If dry enough on Sunday, I will have Miss A try it on for size and I'll snap a picture to share here.

Encore Mega Button Hat

This is my final "Snowy Saturday" project! This hat took less than one ball of Encore Mega yearn by Plymouth and only took about an hour to knit. I don't think I've ever completed three projects in one day! The scarf I did begin last night and finished today, but the neck warmer and this hat were today's projects. You must think I do nothing else. Well that is just not so; I did go shopping with a friend for two hours this morning, I did three loads of laundry, changed the bed clothes and made shrimp fried rice for supper. To sit all day and just knit would make me feel way too guilty!!

I'm so not a hat girl, but I really do like this hat. The pattern is free at Knitter's Edge if you buy a skein of Encore Mega yarn.

Simple Neckwarmer

This is an adaption to the Encore Mega Simple Cowl pattern, which is free from Plymouth Yarn. I used one ball of Encore Mega yarn instead of two and knit until I was almost out of yarn. Then, I cast-off as per the original pattern.

My son-in-law would rather wear a neck warmer when working outside instead of dealing with the length of a scarf. There is another pattern, which I made for his dad, that I know he wants me to knit. However, today I wanted to work with this yarn and was able to whip this piece up in one hour! I will post the cable neck warmer he wants as soon as I knit it. In the meantime I know he'll be happy to have the one my DH is modeling here for the cold weather we are experience in the northeast.

Sometimes the best gift is not a hand knit! When my children were little I sewed Christmas stockings for them, and then for my hubby and myself (mine is crocheted). The stockings needed no names because each one was made to suite personalities. When my son graduated from high school I made him a more adult stocking, but he said NO WAY and continued to use his childhood stocking. This year will be the first time in 35 years that I will not have Christmas at my house; this year we will start the tradition of having Christmas at my son's house since he has Miss A. and she's at the perfect age to take delight in the holiday.

When my son was dating his now wife, I bought her a beautiful stocking. She has always liked the stocking that hung for her at my house. This year, however, my son asked that I make her a stocking. So, we put our heads together to come up with something that would suite her personality and that would have some sentimental value. I suggested something of Miss A.'s; my son came up with the blanket that was used to bring Miss A. home from the hospital.

As you can tell from the pictures KJ was surprised and pleased!

While I was the principal at LNES I had an after school Needle Arts Mentoring Program (NAMP); the art teacher, JW, at LNES was actively involved with the program. This year the Helping Hands Foundation, which sponsors NAMP asked JW if she'd like to participate in the Feel Good Program through Warm-up America in partnership with Lands End. Of course she said yes, and then started looking for volunteer knitters. There was no cost to the volunteers other than time. Lands End provided everyone with the yarn to be used to make blankets, hats, sweaters, or whatever for charity. My friend, Bev and I made baby blankets, which will be donated to a local shelter for unwed mothers

I knit my donation and Bev crocheted hers; using the same yarn in two different ways created two very different blankets.

Nottingham Hat

After knitting a time consuming project like a sweater, it is nice to have instant gratification in knitting something that only takes a few hours!

I really enjoyed knitting this hat for Miss C. and will be knitting another this week for Miss A. The pattern is very well written and can be made for infants, toddlers and adults. Click here: Nottingham Hat to find the free pattern.

This hat was made on a size 6 circular needle using I Love This Wool from Hobby Lobby. It took less than a skein. I've begun to knit a matching scarf with the remainder of the yarn. I'll be shopping this week for additional yarn since now I feel like I should also make Miss C. matching mittens.

Plymouth Yarn's Cable Cardi

I was determined that this sweater would work for me and although at the first try-on I wasn't convinced I liked it on me; today I felt differently!

This three-quarter length sleeve cardi was just perfect for this incredibly wonderful fall day we are having here in north east Pennsylvania.

I felt wonderful wearing it out shopping this morning and glowed when a shopper in line behind me tapped my shoulder and asked if I knit my sweater....."Yes, I did!"

Cabled Cardigan Pattern

Working on this short cardigan with three-quarter length sleeves is very enjoyable. I find cabling a self-serving satisfying technique...in other words, I like cabling! The back is just about complete.

I bought the yarn for this sweater two weeks ago, but I've only been working on it for one week; in between working on other projects. It took me a week to get the gauge right! This sweater is for me and I'm determined that it will fit; therefore the gauge was imperative! When I found the right size needle for the patterns' gauge, after doing a few inches I did not like how loose and sloppy the stitches looked. So, I decided to tighten the stitch and knit the next size on the pattern and am happy with the process at this point. I'm confident the sweater will fit when it's complete.

Garter Yoke Baby Sweater

This baby sweater was made to give as a gift. I like how the pattern transitions from garter stitch to stockinette stitch. The "Garter Yoke Baby Sweater" is practically seamless!

Although I was prepared for six buttons; I decided it looked cuter with just three.

There may have only been four Heartfelt Knitters able to "crawl" today, but it was still a wonderful day. AFTER we made a stop for Dunkin' Donuts coffee, the drive to Summerdale, PA was relaxed and enjoyable.

One Step Closer to Brighton

The lining is made and basted into the bag! This was no small feat I tell you. Now to find the straps for the bag.

The straps recommended by the designer are $40! Com'on now you KNOW I'm not spending that much to complete the bag. My thought is to find something similar cheaper, find a purse on a rummage table and take the straps off and use them, or maybe one of my readers will tell me she has an old bag with the perfect straps to be recycled.

This work in progress (W.I.P.) is a Christmas gift. It was great fun to knit, but still needs walls and lining. I'm debating between the two fabrics in the second picture, but leaning more to the lighter fabric. The person to be lined and whom it will receive it is very conservative. The yarn and fabric are from my stash, all I need to purchase are the straps. The bag is called Brighton and it's a free pattern from Knitty.

On the way to Virginia I worked on a cotton placemat and on the way home I made a white cotton dishcloth. I've since started a second placemat (crochet) in hopes of giving a set as a gift (4 placemats if I have enough cotton) and the dishcloth will be come a Christmas angel that comes apart to be used as a dishcloth.

On my needles right now is the start of a Haruni lace shawl, which I'm anxious to complete. I'm just about halfway there!

Knitting has been taking a back seat this week to canning!

Knitting Break for Baking

I am baking for my nephew's wedding reception on Saturday and am please with how the cookies are turning out. I just finished decorating 86 large starfish and 54 small starfish (the reception is at the beach). All that's left to do is package them. I will do that tomorrow after I'm sure the icing is hardened! The large starfish will be placed at each guest's place setting as a favor and the small starfish will be scattered around the cupcake tree on the dessert table.

Best part is they actually taste as good as they look.

Knitting to resume on the 6+ hour drive to VA Beach.

Floral Hoodie

Remember the toddler dress I made for Miss A. a few weeks ago? Well, I had some of that wonderful self-striping floral yarn left over so I made her a hoodie. She came over this morning and was as eager to try on the sweater as I was for her to try it on. I love that even at two years old she understands when I am knitting something for her!

I am pleased with the fit and hope that when she leaves for the beach next week it will be among her belongings. It is lightweight and perfect for an evening on the Boardwalk!

For all of the knitters whom might be following my blog, you can appreciate how proud I am of the INSIDE of this Fair Isle Christmas stocking, which I am working on. As I mentioned in my previous post I learned how to use the two-handed technique to Fair Isle knit and along with the technique comes a very neatly done inside! I had to take a picture and share because once I steam the stocking and add the embellishments it will get lined. I know most people like to leave their stockings unlined (probably to show off their neat insides) but I line mine because I worry about little trinkets getting caught in the weave and making a pull even years down the road. So, for safety and sanity reasons I line my Fair Isle knit stockings.

Christmas in July

I promised a friend's daughter I would make a fair isle Christmas stocking as a baby gift and so yesterday I started the project. The last fair isle knit I did was the Olympic hat. I couldn't wait to finish the project! Working with the three color yarns was a nuisance; the yarns continually got tangled and I'd have to spot periodically to untangle and start again. With that said I wasn't looking forward to another fair isle project. However, that has changed! I taught myself the 2 handed fair isle technique and I am really enjoying working on this stocking. I have not gotten tangled once and the tension seems to be perfect. I started the project last night and am close to halfway already. I love this technique and will never shy away from fair isle knits again. Actually, I'm looking for the next possible fair isle project, whether it be another stocking, sweater or tame. I am working on a dress, now tunic top, for Miss A. I feel in love with this self-striping floral design yarn a friend used to knit a sweater. I knew I had to make something summery for Ava with it, so I dug out a toddler dress pattern I used in the past and started a dress. However, on Sunday when I saw Miss A. she was wearing an adorable tunic top with a pair of shorts, which gave me the idea to turn the dress into a long top. I am at the bodice so I expect to have the piece off my needles by the weekend. I'm knitting as much these days since I'm working on several different projects, such as, a scrapbook, writing a fiction piece, cleaning, cooking, gardening, and whatever comes my way. Life is good!

Camryn's 3rd birthday present is completed! Now all that has to happen is it has to fit her. I'm pretty confident it will, the chest measurement and gauge is accurate so it should be fine. Won't know though until June 5th when I give it to her.

I made this Plymouth Yarn Design using Hobby Lobby's "I Love This Cotton!" in Sage and Carmel. I am pleased with the end result.

Short Sleeve Lady February

I finished this sweater on Thursday evening with only about 24 inches of yarn to spare, which is why it is a short sleeve sweater. However, I really like it and when I tried it on it was really cute! I wish I had a picture to show of me modeling it, but that will just have to wait until another time. I really wanted to post it before so much time lapsed that I'd forget. Bunny Hop Baby Blanket

I really like this blanket and hope the mommy-to-be will like it for her soon-to-be little girl! Made as a special order for "Everything Is Rosie" it is made from 100% cotton, making it cool for Florida weather, where this angel will be born, and also durable. I made my granddaughter a blanket out of the same yarn and it has been thrown in the washer and dryer many times and still looks great.

The blanket measures 31" x 33" making it manageable; nothing worse then trying to hold a baby in too much bulk. The diamond design gives the blanket interest.

Lady February Sweater

Two or three years ago I made a sweater using a wonderful cotton yarn. When it was complete I hated it! I never even posted a picture of it. I hated the sweater but still loved the yarn, so a month or so ago I decided to take the sweater I didn't like apart and use the yarn for a sweater I knew I would like and could wear this summer. The sweater is the adult version of EZ's February Sweater from her Almanac. The sweater, with its lacy gull stitch, is coming along beautifully, however I am not sure I have enough of the yarn to complete the sleeves. The pattern calls for a three-quarter length sleeve but still it looks doubtful that I will have what I need to complete the sweater as written. So, in a future post you may see my sweater with a cap sleeve instead.
